Rifugio La Casa delle Guardie is located in Pian di Balestra, in the municipality of San Benedetto Val di Sambro (BO), just a few meters from the historic Via degli Dei, an ancient communication route between Bologna and Florence, now traveled by hundreds of wayfarers. The site is an asset to the area's historical and cultural heritage. Rifugio La Casa delle Guardie is located on the ancient border between Emilia-Romagna and Tuscany (LIMES, the Latin word for border). It is the ideal stopping point not only for those who travel the Via degli Dei on foot, but also for those who wish to discover this part of the Apennines by mountain bike. This facility, with its beech forest and pond, also suits the needs of groups (scouts, parish, meditation) who want a quiet and special place to gather, do meditation and yoga. It is possible to have use of the kitchen for those who wish to make their own arrangements. Near the shelter stands the little church of Pian di Balestra, which is accessible to guests.
